Thank you, St. Thomas Standard!
I just wanted to write a quick thank you to express my appreciation for the St. Thomas Standard which you have recently put into circulation among St. Thomas students on campus. Not only do I enjoy reading the articles, but the viewpoints are very factual and elaborate. I particularly enjoyed reading the article on abortion in the December issue of the Paper. Although the facts on abortion were disturbing, I think that it is essential for people to be aware of the facts. The paper is very well put together as well as clearly organized. The subjects are very diverse and informative. Thank you!

Don’t forget the ladies
This letter is in response to an article in the December issue entitled, “Skating with Ownership.” I would just like to let you know that the new ice rink is also home to the St. Thomas women’s hockey team in addition to the men’s. They often get overlooked, and your paper is no exception. The St. Thomas women’s team won the MIAC last season, went to the national tournament and is currently ranked in the top 10 in the nation and tied for first in the MIAC. They should not be overlooked anymore. I suggest including all involved when writing an article such as this. You owe the women’s team an apology.

Frustrated reader speaks out
I am disappointed in your newspaper. I am disappointed and concerned that you allow unsubstantiated claims, biased journalism, and medieval thought to be printed and associated with this university. As a student truly open to diverse discussion I read the St. Thomas Standard front to back. I am disgusted and disturbed by its content.
For someone who thinks “conservative” is a dirty word, and “liberal” is something to strive for (look the two definitions up and compare), I am saddened by the limited and narrow-minded thoughts presented in your paper. One would think 2004 would herald new thinking that is open-minded, generous, and thoughtful. But after reading the St. Thomas Standard, one would be disappointed.
I suggest you truly open your minds and take an objective look at your belief system. How can you be unchangingly so “conservative” in a changing world?
